Loving the job or loving people

We have been here at the hospital for three days long sleepless days.  Everything is going good and we should be going home this afternoon.  I was talking to amber last night about how you can tell such a difference in certain people.

While we were in the delivery room we had the most awesome nurse; Kerri.  She did everything she could to make Amber happy and comfortable, even to the point of bugging the Dr.’s for more medicine for Amber.  Since she had two rooms to take care of there was another nurse in the hall that I could call on for help when Kerri couldn’t be in there.  Since Ambers epidural was so jacked up we had to ask for more medicine when the other started wearing out.  I went out in the hall and asked the nurse to get Kerri because Ambers medicine wasn’t working and the contractions were getting stronger and quicker.  She said ok and did nothing, I even stood at the door to watch her.  I went back in the room and thought well maybe Kerri is busy and she’s going to get her as soon as possible.  but no luck.  So I went back out in the hall with a little more emphasis on the fact that amber was in more pain and told the nurse to get Kerri and we need medicine!  She finally got kerri but never told her Amber needed medicine.  By the time Kerri got in there it was time for Amber to push and she was feeling just about everything.  Thankfully Kerri & the midwife pushed the Doc to come back and give more medicine.  Right after the delivery the other nurse came in the room and looked at Keegan and talked about how beautiful she was and how good things were.  As if she had done something to help.  Meanwhile Kerri is working her but off taking care of both Amber and the other mom.

As I was thinking about this last night I realized how some people like the thought of doing things and do them to be apart of something.  While others see a purpose for what they do and do it because they want to help people.  I think this goes in ministry as well, there are those who want to be apart of a ministry because it is cool and they may get recognition while others see a vision to help people and lead them to Christ.  I want to be the later, I don’t want to get caught up in doing things for recognition or because it’s cool and new but because God has called me to do it and He has given me a passion for it.

What about you are you doing things because you like the thought of it or because you want to help people or more importantly be obedient to what God has called you to do?
