Cough Medicine

I was listening to the radio last night and heard a commercial for Buckley's cough medicine.  Their tag line is; "It tastes awful, but it works."  The commercial was funny but it got me to thinking as well. The company knew that their medicine tasted like dog vomit but also knew that it worked and instead of trying to cover up how bad tasting it was they accepted it because the end result was relief from the cough.  

Why do we as Christians try to cover up the hard times and struggles we go through or know that someone else will go through when growing in a relationship with Christ.  Yes, a life in Christ is joyful and peaceful when walking close to God but it doesn't meant that it's not hard.  

I'm not one to spiritualize everything I hear or see but this got to me last night.  The hardest times for me are when I'm not walking close with God.  And God used this simple commercial to challenge me in my relationship with Him.
