Most everyone wants to be the person raising their hands in victory at the end of a game or the person seen on the stage. What we fail to realize is that it often takes many people behind the scenes for that person to raise their hands.
Years ago I believed that God was calling me to serve in an associate pastor position, but while in college my passion was for sports ministry. I believed that God was leading me to start a sports ministry and from there possibly start a church. As I was praying through this I realized that there was no one that had the same passion or desire to join apart of the team. Which was frustrating and brought me to the position I have now as an intern running an Upward program in Clarkston. In this time God has been refueling my hunger and passion for the church as a whole and not a single ministry within the church.
I was recently talking with a friend who was talking about how God had called him to waive his hands in the air and call people out to join him. Ofcourse, I was one of the ones he was talking to and was unsure of what God was leading Amber and i to do next. Then this past week while reading "10 things every minister should know" by Ronnie Floyd. I came across a section where he said that an associate is to lift the pastor up and help him accomplish his vision. Immediately Exodus 17 came to mind when Aaron and Hur lifted Moses hands up in the air while fighting the Amalekites. God used that passage along with Matthew 5 when Jesus was talking about the salt of the earth and being a city on a hill to confirm that God has called me to be an associate pastor.
As I said in the beginning most people want to be the person with their hands in the air, but I want to be beside the person helping them lift their hands and accomplish their vision from God.
(I hope this makes since to anyone who may read this. Although I don't think anyone knows about my blog so I don't have to worry about it.)

Real Cowboy
This morning on my way to the church I became a real cowboy. Going down the road I noticed something that didn't look quit right. A horse was grazing on some grass right next to the road and there was no fence between him and me. So being the cowboy that I am I pulled over and knocked on the owners door to let them know their horse was out. But of course no one was home. So I went and tried to get the horse back to its stall by myself. Now its been about 12 years since I owned a horse and if you can imagine a horse doing something to someone its been done to me. So I was a bit scarred going up to it. The horse let me pet it but when I went to put a rope around his neck his ears flew back and trotted off. Ha ha i just used the word trotted!
From then on it wouldn't let me get close. Finally two other guys stopped to help and we were able to pin the horse in and get a rope on him and put him in a stall.
I'm so mad at the owners of this horse right now though. It is kept in a small little area behind the house with hardly any grass and no water in the buckets. I think I'm going to stop by their house tonight to let them know what happened, hopefully I don't get shot.
